Acrylic fiber is the major component of cashmilon .They are artificial fibers made from polacrylonitrile . DuPont made the first acrylic fibers and named it Orlon.

Acrlyic fiber is made by dissolving the polymer in a solvent , usually N,N-dimethylformamide, also known as DMF, or aqueous sodium thiocycanate. Then metering it through a soinneret ad finally coagulating the results filament by wets spinning or dry spinning.
It is mainly produced in Turkey, India, Mexico, and South America. Very little European producers still make acrylic fibers . There are no more acrylic fibers produced in the US
